Biosphärenreservat Rhön

Around the Dreistelz there are many old stocks of beech and noble deciduous trees, in which an enormous variety of species can be found. That is why a core zone of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön has been designated around the Dreistelz. The core zones are nature reserves of a special kind and there is a strict ban on paths. Hiking, mountain biking or cycling is only permitted on designated paths.
To protect the sensitive flora and fauna, please stick to it and stay on the designated paths!

King Ludwig I had a path built from Bad Brückenau to Dreistelzberg in 1819. At the same time, a wooden observation tower was also built on top. This had to be renewed in 1895. In 2002 the tower was replaced by a steel frame.

The tower is 16.2 m high and when you reach the top you have a wonderful panoramic view of the Spessart, Taunus, Vogelsberg and the Hessian Rhön.

At 660.4 m above sea level. NHN, the Dreistelz(kopf) is the highest mountain in the Brückenauer Kuppenrhön. This and the isolated location of the mountain made it ideal for a viewing tower. In 1895, today's steel structure, just over 16m high, was built to replace its wooden predecessor. In order to be able to restore all of the tower's individual parts, it was dismantled in 2002 and re-erected in 2003 after renovation.
