The Widukind fountain is the official start of the Engeran hiking trails, which all start here.
The fountain also symbolizes the importance of Widukind for Enger, since Enger is possibly seen as the place where Widukind worked and where he died. Centrally located in Enger is the Barneierplatz. Here stands the Widukindbrunnen, which was created by the Engeran sculptor Eberhard Hellinge in 1994. The fountain symbolizes the Sachsentum between divine belief and Christianity. The bubbling stone column refers to the legendary Irminsul, the sanctuary of the Saxons.
