A forest sensory path is a lot of work, but it's worth it.
"All the signs have been removed, the lettering milled out and the wood repainted,"
reports district forester Jan Stäcker, who created the path in Niendorf in 2003.
Since then, it has been expanded again and again. To the left and right of the path there are touch boxes
in which children can touch things that are typical of a forest, signs with interesting information and nesting boxes high up in the trees - well camouflaged and only visible at second glance.
In Niendorf, children can "experience the forest with all their senses," says Stäcker.
You can't get any closer to nature. Children like six-year-old Finn learn in the forest which animals live in it and what types of trees there are.
The forest sensory path also includes a wild bee stand. There, beekeeper Johann-Friedrich Steffen explains everything about insects. "There is comprehensive input here," says forester Stäcker. Pensioners Karl-Heinz Divscherl, Lutz Kottlick and Anton Elsing are responsible for maintenance - "for the children", as they say. And of course they enjoy the manual work in nature, they report.
The fact that the signs are easy to read again is thanks to the "Uhlenkieker" of the Lebenshilfewerk Herzogtum Lauenburg. They milled the lettering "Waldsinnespfad" into the signposts and gave them a new color. The St. Anton kindergarten in particular uses the path for its weekly forest walks. But it is open to everyone.

Small hiking section through the Niendorfer Walddälfer with a forest sense path with forest school lovingly cared for by the village elders. For the section from Woltersdorfer Weg, I recommend rubber boots because it leads through a wet meadow that keeps water ankle deep after downpours.
