                          The Ischlerbahn (Salzkammergut Local Railway) was a narrow-gauge railway that operated between Salzburg and Bad Ischl from 1891 to 1957. The section along the northern shore of Lake Wolfgangsee, where the railway embankment cycle path now runs, was particularly attractive. The railway once served passenger and freight transport and was very popular with summer visitors. After its closure, the line remained undeveloped for decades and was eventually converted into a cycling and hiking path.

                          Today, the railway embankment cycle path offers stunning views of the lake and mountains, leads through forests and over bridges, and is part of the Salzkammergut cycle path network. It is a successful example of how old railway lines can be meaningfully integrated into modern recreational use – while preserving the charm of bygone times.
