Twin Arrows is not a place and never was one, but is the name of the trading post on the south side of the Interstate, in principle comparable to a motorway service area. The figurehead of the company, which opened in the 1960s, was two large arrows (actually nothing more than disused telegraph poles) that seem to have got stuck in the ground. The arrows rotted for a long time after operations ceased in 1998 until they were restored in a blitz campaign in 2009 by both Route 66 enthusiasts and Hopi Indians. According to the "Arizona Daily Sun", the latter even plan to revive the old Trading Post as competition for the planned casino of the Navajos on the other side of the Interstate. A scene from the movie "Forest Gump": Forest falls into the dirt during his marathon run and thus accidentally invents the "Smiley" T-shirt. The scene takes place in front of a gas station, in the background there are 2 oversized Indian arrows at an angle in the ground: the "Twin Arrows" Trading Post. Some claim that they are stuck in the ground at the same angle as the cars of the "Cadillac Ranch" near Amarillo.
