From the castle garden you can look out over the Tauber valley in three directions. To the north you can see Detwang, the Fuchsmühle and the Topplerschlösschen, to the south you can see the double bridge and the hospital district, the so-called “Kappenzipfel” and to the west you can see the Engelsburg and the former ski jump.

At this point the Hohenstaufen built their imperial castle in 1142. King Konrad III ruled from here. the Empire. The settlement expanded from the castle until Rothenburg was one of the 10 largest cities of the Holy Roman Empire in 1400.

Very beautiful garden on the former castle grounds of Rothenburg.
The park was created in the 19th century on the site of a Staufer castle that was destroyed by an earthquake in 1356, and here too history can be felt on the extensive walking paths. The mighty linden and beech trees are over two hundred years old, which create a magical park atmosphere. Special features such as wingnut, flowering ash and gingko trees enrich the diverse tree population, and lushly planted flowerbeds ensure that the colors change with the seasons. The seasons are also presented very pictorially in the geometric part of the garden. They are depicted together with the four elements as sandstone figures and watch between elegantly patterned boxwood beds.
As you stroll through the castle garden, witnesses of the past repeatedly come into view, such as the Blasius Chapel, which is the only building in the old castle complex to be renovated, the Staufer stele commemorating the history of the Staufers and many others. Together with the fantastic views of the city and the Tauber Valley, they make the walk a relaxing pleasure.

The castle garden is the local recreation area for residents. They usually come here for an evening stroll. During the day, the park is full of visitors who enjoy the wonderful panoramic view over the Tauber Valley with the double bridge and the Kobolzell church and back to the southern town. In spring, summer and early autumn, the surrounding area shows its colorful side. However, this is also the time when the number of tourists is in full bloom and the small town with around 12,000 inhabitants welcomes around two million visitors every year. Of the imperial and count's double castle on the high mountain ledge, only the castle gate and the Blasius Chapel have survived since the 12th century. The public park also offers a beautiful view of the unusual light blue painted residential tower of the Toppler Castle. Built in 1388, it served as a recreational residence for the powerful mayor Toppler. In the former moated castle, he met with King Wenceslas, among others. In honor of the former mayor, there is a Toppler memorial stone in the castle garden.
