The Berlin Falls in South Africa are fascinating not only because of their length, but also because of their unusual shape: the thin jet from the Sabine River spreads out so far in free fall that the spectacle looks like the flickering of a candle when viewed from a distance.
The waterfalls are located on the so-called Panorama Route in the province of Mpumalanga.
The color spectrum of the Berlin Falls is also extraordinary - foaming white water hisses over 80 meters down rust-red rocks into a turquoise rock pool. In the dry season from May to August, the waterfall usually carries very little water. However, if you are there after one of the few heavy rainfalls, a spectacular sight awaits you.
The name Berlin Falls is not a coincidence: German miners who arrived during the gold rush named numerous places in the area after German cities and first names.
