What today appear to be harmless, plant-filled depressions in the forest are in fact silent witnesses to the war.

In 1945, the French occupying forces blew up large Wehrmacht ammunition depots here. What remained were circular craters that over time filled with water, ferns, and life.

A perfect example of how nature reclaims its place – on soil that was once deadly.

💡 Tip:

The "bomb holes" are inconspicuously scattered throughout the area. Look for grassy depressions with dense vegetation – they're easy to spot if you know what to look for.

Nestled between fields and forest, this small, idyllic pond lies right on the outskirts of Frohnhofen. The calm water, surrounded by trees and reeds, is a popular resting place for ducks – hence the name. A simple bench invites you to linger while watching the constantly changing reflections on the water's surface.
