Erick was a port of call for travelers early on: its natural springs were the ideal port of call for the numerous cattle tracks.
Oil and gas were later found in the area, but the hoped-for upswing ebbed away early on. As the Interstate was built, the local economy continued to decline. Country musician Roger Miller "King of the Road", who grew up in Erick, is said to have answered in an interview when asked where Erick was: It would be close to extinction.
Sandhill's Curiosity Shop in Erick
The general store is run by Harley and Annabelle, the "Mediocre Music Makers" and is housed in the oldest building in the small town of Erick, the former butcher's shop. Harley and Annabelle also like to play for their guests. Many believe this store may have inspired Lizzie's Curio Shop in the movie Cars.
