In 1951 the first pile was driven in, in 1952 the first stone was bricked in.

The new crypt was consecrated in 1958, the Tower in 1965.

The Yser Tower is +/- 84 m high, has 22 floors and houses the Museum on the Yser.

Within walking distance (1 km) from the Grote Markt in Diksmuide you will find the peace site 'Aan de IJzer' with the Pax Gate, the Yser Crypt and the Yser Tower.

The Yser Tower houses the museum about War, Peace and Flemish emancipation and has 22 floors. Since the beginning of 2014, the museum has been completely redesigned to offer visitors an even better, more interactive and experience-oriented insight into the Great War, with the emphasis on the Belgian-German confrontation.

The guiding principle is the slogan: 'What's left of life? What remains of the land?'

As a visitor, you take the elevator up and from the panorama room or from the roof terrace you have a unique view over the entire front area, 84 meters high above the 'Vlaamse Velden'.
