A first church building in Hornow was already mentioned in the Meissen diocese articles from 1346. The current village church of St. Martin was built at the beginning of the 15th century as a rectangular hall with mixed masonry made of field stone and brick.

Around the 18th century, the village church was renovated. Around the middle of the 19th century, the windows were widened in the archway and the east gable of the church was renewed. The rectangular church tower was added in 1902. To the north is a sacristy annex with a baroque style lord's lodge.

In addition to the parish of Hornow, the villages of Bohsdorf, Klein Loitz, Reuthen and Wadelsdorf also parished into the parish of Hornow. It belongs to the Senftenberg-Spremberg church district in the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia.

St. Martin's Church was first mentioned in 1346 in the Meissen diocese register. The church is certainly older, because one of the church treasures is a dugout chest from the year 1186. This is in the Niederlausitzer Heidemuseum in the Spremberg Castle.
The church tower, which originally stood separately on the side of the altar, was added in its present form in 1901/02. The beautiful colored luce floreo (blossom with light) stained glass windows are made using an acid etching technique. The church was partially destroyed by the effects of the Second World War and subsequently fell into disrepair. From 1988-1991 the church tower, roof and exterior facade were repaired and the interior was renovated. On October 1st, 1995, for the 500th anniversary of the church, the Sauer organ (1876), which had been restored years ago at great expense, sounded again.
