If someone wants to do the Ramsau round trip, which also starts there, then you have to go right after the gorge downhill, otherwise you will not find the entry way. Is wrongly signposted. Otherwise you keep going uphill and waiting for a turn to the right.

The Wimbachtal is a more than 10 km long high valley of the Berchtesgaden Alps in the center of the National Park Berchtesgaden in the municipality Ramsau. Located between Watzmann in the east and Hochkalter in the west, the valley begins under the pass Trischübel (1774 m) between Watzmann and Steinernem sea and moves quite soon steadily in a northeasterly direction.

The dominant rock of the gorge is the Dachstein limestone, which was deposited in the Upper Triassic. Numerous fossils in the walls of the gorge testify that a sea must once have existed here. On a hike through the gorge to the Wimbachschloss you can pass a period of approx. 50 million years. The rocks that occur here are flake limestone, red limestone, radiolarite and chert-bearing limestone.

Since this gorge is significantly shorter than the better known Almbachklamm, you should take your time. It is worth it! Personally, I find this gorge the most beautiful in the region!

Nice trip in any weather! we were drizzling what we did not enjoy! After the Wimbachklamm I recommend, the way to go to the castle, there you can see chamois now and then!

Dogs are allowed in the Wimbachklamm and can run the distance (about 200m) without any problems (leashed!). Only a staircase with steps, where you can look down in the interstices to the river, could possibly be difficult ...
