Nature has brought back the walls carved into the rock in the quarry near Kirchleus. In the meantime, the disused area has developed into a retreat for rare animals and plants.

Beware of the break-off edge, it crumbles away quite easily. There is a path along the edge, but it is actually forbidden and in any case only to be taken at your own risk.
The old quarry is now developing into a very interesting, largely left to its own natural area. It should be converted into a nature reserve and not misused as a building rubble dump like the quarry right next to it.

The main hiking trail from KU to KC passes right next to the quarry. It is marked as the Burgenweg, Frankenweg and Frankenwaldsteig. This section is particularly beautiful.
If you are careful, you can walk a few meters from the top of the quarry to the quarry despite the prohibition signs on the hiking trail and take a rest on the boulders lying around. But be careful of the edge!!!
