The Alfeld wind hole is a natural karst cave near Kauerheim. The Alfeld wind hole is also called wind hole near Kauerheim, cave in Schwarzenberg or Schwarzenberg cave. After the Mühlbach spring cave in the Altmühl valley, this cave is the second largest in the Franconian Jura with a total length of around 2200 meters. Until the 1930s it was used as a show cave, remnants of which are still to be seen. The maximum height difference is about 52 meters. The system is branched out like a labyrinth and in some cases can only be driven over extreme narrow points. The inconspicuous, partially walled, 80 × 40 centimeter entrance is in a collapse funnel. The approximately 120 × 70 × 5 meter entrance hall is littered with crimes.
