In addition, 300 paintings and 400 stage set models as well as 17,000 so-called stills on early film history: the theater studies collection in Schloss Wahn is an international documentation and research center and is one of the largest of its kind in the world. It was initiated by Carl Niessen, who was the first professor of theater studies at the university in 1924 Cologne. The castle itself goes back to a moated castle, which was first mentioned in 1358.

Today's Wahn Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1358 as a property of the von Revelen family. The "Hoff zu Wande" was a moated castle at that time, which consisted of a residential tower, gate, moat and outer bailey. In the 15th century the castle belonged to the von Loë family and from 1522 it became the property of the von Zweiffel family.
