The Berlin sculptor Ulrich Thiel (born September 22, 1942; † April 7, 2004) was the first manager of the erratic boulder park. In 1992, on his initiative, artists began to have large boulders designed according to historical models. 1000 erratic boulders from the Nochten and Döbern open-cast mining areas were used as the basis. The copies of Hittite and Celtic art were made by the Polish artists Kazimierz Krewniak and Adam Sobiraj. After moving the first erratic boulder park to the heath of Henzendorf, the local landscape conservation association took over the sponsorship in 1997. The designed stones can be found on four hectares on permanent loan from the artists. The stones were arranged according to Hittite, Germanic and Celtic motifs.

Along the approximately three kilometer long route from Henzendorf to Reicherskreuz, over 2,000 boulders on the way of the stones are supposed to document human development over the past 2,000 years. Some of these boulders show the artist's view of contemporary history through processing. With the German-Polish Sculptor Pleinair in June 1999, four German and one Polish sculptor created the first individual works.

The geological nature trail was inaugurated in autumn 2007. Stones labeled in detail provide insight into the type of rock and the origin of the erratic boulders. The stock of guide attachments comes mainly from the surrounding field and was supplemented by boulders from the former geological nature trail near Eisenhüttenstadt and the Jänschwalde open-cast mine to give the visitor an insight into the glacier movement of the Pleistocene glaciation.
