pretty old building. used to be the train station. now there is a pizzeria in there, we ate a pretty tasty vegetarian pizza at lunchtime, you could take coleslaw and water.

The railway was built by the Swedish state and officially put into operation on July 27, 1876 for passenger and freight transport. Statens Järnvägar took over the management.

The branch line was built to facilitate the transport connection to Karlsborg Fortress. Construction of the fortress started in 1820. It was only put into operation in 1909, because before that it was not finished in accordance with the original plans. As early as 1925, it was no longer used by the military in this function.

Without the fortress, Karlsborg remained a garrison town and industrial companies settled in the towns along the route, especially in Tibro. They were all customers of the newly built railroad. Some passenger trains ran to Rödesunds hamn, where there was a boat connection across the Vättern to Motala. This passenger traffic ended in 1937, the route to the port was dismantled in 1979. The line was electrified in 1937.
