In the middle of the forest, directly on the bank of the Statte rises here this huge rock bar. You can also climb up a path on the side and then enjoy the magnificent view of the sea of leaves at your feet from above.

A highlight that you should have visited as part of a hike in the Solwaster area. Wonderful valley view and beautiful photo opportunities. The ascent via a secured path looks steeper than it actually is. The climb is definitely worth it! There is a spartan bench at the top, but that's enough for a rest.

The name Bilisse is said to be of Celtic origin: bîl means distinctive and smooth or less and comes from Lech (stone). Hence bîllech = protruding rock!

Then the site reaches the foot of the Rocher de Bilisse, which it circles in a wide loop. This 40 meter high summit consists of hard quartzites and brittle schist. Its name comes from the Celtic word “bild lech”, which means something like “rock protruding into the air”. The rocks in the region date back to the Cambrian period, a time around 500 million years ago. The rocks were folded by ground elevations and rock formations such as the Bilisse rock were created. The slate, which is susceptible to erosion, was eroded over time and the sandstone rocks remained, which look like loose, disc-like rock formations. According to legend, the Sotês, the legendary gnomes who left their mark everywhere in the Ardennes, once lived here in caves under the Bilisse rock.

Impressive rock, unexpectedly in the middle of the forest. A large wooden owl has been placed on one spot on the rock.
Yellow-brown lichens can be seen on the rock walls. This was used to dye wool for Easter eggs.

It is smaller than you think and lies in the middle of the forest. The ascent takes place quickly over a small path on the side .. in the middle of the whole landscape but it is an absolute highlight. The trail leads across the wooden slat bridges / bridges known for this region and is always worth a little adventure.
