The subsoil of this region contained a lot of iron ore.
These remains are the remains of the foundation walls of an old forge and a corresponding oven (1480-1609). First mentioned in January 1480, this place was called Forge Le Chastelin and later Forge Racket.

The ruins of the old ironworks in Jalhay are an intriguing place hidden in the greenery, which takes you back to the time of industrial activity in the Ardennes. The weathered stone walls and remains of the forge give the site a mystical, almost fairytale atmosphere, surrounded by the sound of nature.

One of the many ironworks in the region. They were often located near water and powered their hammers by a watermill, known locally as "iron mills." This Chastelin forge was mentioned as early as January 1480 and continued to operate until 1609.
