Very nice beach. But even in the low season there is a lot going on.
For some circular hikes, the river has to be crossed.
But now there is so much water in the river that my bathing suit almost gets wet.
It's fun to wade through the river with the current, but maybe not everyone wants to do it.

This palm forest is wonderful!
You don't have to start from the parking lot above, you can also hike to the beach from the west.
Then there are not so long steps.

And don't forget your bathing shoes or flip-flops, because the beach is very hot and it's difficult to wade through the river with sturdy shoes.

It was made famous by the '68 hippie generation and is considered the most beautiful beach of Crete. The unique attraction comes from the estuary, salt and fresh water mix here. The Sarnad can only be reached on foot or by boat.

You can drive from Plakias by boat (runs several times a day) and then hike back to Plakias. Hardly anyone does that, even in high season. Often you are alone on the trails!

If you park at the Venetian bridge, you can also combine this beach with a short hike. It's best to have food with you, since the tavern isn't exactly cheap (but that's normal given the location). The fresh water is wonderfully refreshing and the palm trees speak for themselves.
Good shoes if you go upstream to maybe scramble a bit on the stones :-)

Fantastically beautiful beach with a beautifully landscaped palm forest through which a freshwater stream runs. The way there requires quite a bit of altitude, but it's definitely worth it. The bay can also be reached by boat, it is offered. Definitely worth seeing!

It is a tourist hotspot on Crete, but the gorge with the torrent at the end with date palm groves and the beautiful bay with pebble beach is uniquely beautiful.

Unfortunately, a lot of people wander through the forest and don't stay on the path, so there aren't many young palm trees. They need to ensure that they grow new ones. On the positive side, I saw very little rubbish there. That was different in 1985.
