The cliff dwellings in Kandovan - Farsi: کندوان are still inhabited today - summer through winter. To heat the homes in the winter, the locals use oil, which you can slightly hanging in the air as you scramble up the steps. We could take a peek inside one of them and it was actually rather hot inside. Aside from watching the "Karaans" you can buy a large assortment of herbs, syrups and other items here - or pet a few stray cats (if they let you...)
