The Hausmannsturm dates from the 17th century, was initially smaller and then increased more and more (today 47 m).
After the tower was raised, the main guard was housed here. The former tower apartment is still clearly visible. The house man and night watchman monitored the city from here because of frequent fires and had to blow the alarm in case of danger and to wake up residents, magistrates, the spraying master and the chimney sweep. Another task of the house man was to announce the time by calling the hour.
In 1931, a severe storm hit the city and severely damaged the tower. Repair work began in 1935. Until 1935 the building was used as a syringe house. During the Second World War, the tower was guarded.
