Remnants of turf iron stone and slag residues from the racing furnaces used at that time to extract iron.
Around 800 BC iron production is known here.
AD 772-785 During the Saxon Wars, the Wietzenbruch was an important armory.
1288 A document from October 9th records an iron delivery contract between Hanover and Celle with the forest smiths in Wietzenbruch.
Around 1500 the blast furnace technology started the end of iron mining in Wietzenbruch.
1912 - 1917 Lawn iron ore is delivered to Ilsede from the Wietzenbruch.
Lawn iron ore forms on the bottom of shallow swampy depressions from ferrous groundwater by contact with atmospheric oxygen.

There is a small open-air museum with replicas of racing ovens. The site is exposed to decay and vandalism. (2019)

The historic forest smithy in Wietze has seen better days. The remote area south of Wieckenberg used to be a meeting point for cyclists, scouts and hikers who could find out about iron mining here. After there was a lot of vandalism, monetary investments were severely reduced. However, it is possible to use the area by arrangement and then a dixi toilet is also available!
