          In 1147 the Goose Noble Gentlemen at Putlitz built a moated castle here. In 1590 it was expanded to a four-wing Renaissance palace, which fell into disrepair after the Thirty Years' War. From 1771 to 1787, today's late baroque two-wing complex was built. The associated landscape park on both sides of the Stepenitz was created in 1850 by Peter Jospeph Lennè.

                Today, the restored castle houses a museum dedicated to the history of the house and the living culture of the Brandenburg landed gentry, using the example of the Gans Edlen Herren zu Putlitz family.
                Concerts and civil weddings take place in the castle's beautiful garden hall, and church services are held in the castle chapel, as well as church weddings and baptisms.
