On April 1, 1910, the construction of the bridge began, which was built by the Duisburg bridge construction institute Harkort using two electricity piers over three current openings as a double-track semi-parabolic truss girder. The bridge was completed at the end of March 1912.
On March 5, 1945, the bridge was blown up by German troops on their retreat. Since the damage was comparatively small, the Haus Knipp-Brücke was the first railway bridge over the Rhine to be rebuilt in its old form between August 1945 and March 1946.
For 15 years, trains only ran on one track between Duisburg-Beeck and Duisburg-Baerl. After extensive renewal of the superstructure, the bridge has been accessible on two tracks since the beginning of 2013.

The main flow opening has a span of 186 meters and was thus the most extensive truss beam in Europe at the time of construction. To the left and right there are two somewhat smaller, 106 meter long truss bridges. The receiving area is bridged with three yokes on the left bank of the Rhine, and nine yokes on the right bank of the Rhine.

As constructively independent bridge girders were built for both tracks, there are a total of 24 truss bridges, each 41 meters long, with a construction weight of around 2,600 tons, which were supplied by the ironworks of the former Friedrich-Alfred hut in Rheinhausen. The construction costs were about 8.5 million marks (in today's purchasing power about 45,215,133 €).

In 1912, the Haus Knipp Bridge was the first power bridge in Duisburg without bridge towers.

The Haus-Knipp railway bridge is an old landmark for shipping on the Rhine. The eponymous manor house Knipp was in the immediate vicinity of the bridge and was demolished in 1939 when the Rhine dike was raised.
