The castle was built in the Baroque style from 1660 on the origin of a manor, which was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. The property was made famous by the son of the owner, a Saxon riding master. Mr. Friedrich I. Vitzthum von Eckstädt (1675-1726), secret cabinet minister under August the Strong and since 1711 imperial count. After expropriation, it was partly a manor with apartments in the GDR era, and the Great Hall was used for cultural events. After the sale it decayed more and more. Security measures are now taking place. It is the largest castle area in the district of North Saxony.

The castle is saved from collapsing by emergency renovation.
Built from 1660, the castle was acquired by a group of investors in 1998 and fell into disrepair.
