The visibility on this moor path is somewhat limited, but from the moor lake to the southeast you have a beautiful view over the water.

At the beginning of the path you pass fields and meadows and think, "Ah, and that's the bog now". But in the further course of the path, the vegetation changes completely and, you know, you are already in a small raised bog that seems completely impenetrable to the left and right of the path.

Pretty is certainly the small bog pond, but unfortunately was almost completely dry during our visit because of the hot summer of 2018. Very nice area.

The photos uploaded in this highlight beautifully show the contrast of the seasons. On the one hand the brown of autumn / winter on the other side the lush green of the summer.

Here you can see the typical high moor landscape with the broken birch trees. For me the most beautiful part of the moor hiking trail.

Here the path leads through the middle of the moor. The path appears to be well paved. Even now after the rainy days there were no wet or muddy spots. The moor is quite bushy and so the view is a little lacking. That only changes at the Moorkuhle. Here the view goes over the water with the dead birch trees and the typical bulges caused by the accumulation of peat.

If you hike through the Owschlager Moor on the Jungfernstieg, you will quickly see that this is predominantly a valuable heather moor that emerged from a largely drained raised moor.
As part of the "Schleswiger Vorgeest", the moor lies on the southern edge of a large, intensively used sandy area. The entire moor is covered by silting up peat patches.
Raised bogs are extreme habitats in which only a few animals and plants can exist.
That's why most of the animal and plant species in the raised moor are on the "Red List" of endangered plants and animals. The reasons for the disappearance or decline of many raised moor specialists lie in the drainage measures (peat extraction, conversion into agricultural land), as a result of which the originally much larger Owschlager Moor has shrunk to the current remaining area of approx. 86 hectares.
