Only the signing of the Gadebusch contract between Major General Barber for the British Army and Lyachenko for the Red Army changed this. Since then, Techin has belonged to the Soviet occupation zone, later to the GDR and now to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The Kolonnenweg is part of the inner-German border installations on the side of the former GDR. It was made of uniform, very weather-resistant perforated plates (concrete road plates), which for the most part grow through with plants and are pretty much firmly attached to the ground. The Kolonnenweg was paved in the death strip of the Berlin Wall. [1] [2]

In contrast to the rest of the border system, the Kolonnenweg is still largely preserved decades after the end of the GDR and is now used as a hiking and cycling path along the former border, although getting around on the uneven surface due to the flushing of the concrete cavities is sometimes very difficult. In GDR times it served the GDR border troops to reach every point of the border as quickly as possible with vehicles. Between the Kolonnenweg and the actual border there was still the control strip and the border fence or the border wall.
