A beautiful, quiet spot with a view of the Oder-Spree Canal and the Kersdorf Lock. Until a few years ago, there was a cozy restaurant there, but it closed. However, a café is scheduled to reopen there in May 2017.

This is one of the oldest (operating) locks in Brandenburg. The southern chamber (on the right in the photo) is still almost original and short. The northern chamber (on the left in the photo) is a new construction and significantly longer. Each of the four lock gates has a different design, and the lock house houses an exhibition on this and the history of the Oder-Spree Canal, which can be viewed. At least, once the coronavirus pandemic is over.

The first section of the Oder-Spree Canal ends at the Kersdorfer Schleuse. From here, the Spree is navigable for cargo shipping. Shortly behind the lock, a good 200m behind the bicycle bridge, the Drahendorfer Spree joins, visible on the left in the photo. In the lock area there is a museum on the Schleuse / Oder-Spree Canal as successor to the Friedrich Wilhelm Canal. Originally 13 locks were replaced by only 2.
