    "Shafts" are, as in the Alps, the alpine pastures, more or less tree-free forest meadows, which were formerly - and partly even today - used as pastureland. In the Bavarian Forest these areas are simply called "meadows", if you come further east, they are called "Schachten". These areas are often in the middle of huge forest areas, but from here you often have a great view. Sometimes you will find here individual trees that could grow unhindered on the otherwise open area and are often ancient and huge. The Lindbergschachten belonged to Glashüttengut Oberzwieselau. There were plans to build a glassworks here. Luckily it did not happen so you can enjoy views and nature here.
