The Altmühlzentrum is located in parts of Dollnstein Castle and on the adjacent outdoor area. Here you will find a tourist information office, an exhibition on the history of the river and landscape and lots of interesting information on the subject of people and the river.

The castle, built in the 12th century, was owned by the Counts of Grögling as early as 1139, who also called themselves Counts von Dollnstein and later von Hischberg. During this time, the poet Wolfram von Eschenbach also stayed at Dollnstein Castle; In his "Parzival" he mentioned the great carnival bustle ("vasnaht") of the market women ("koufwip") from "Tolenstein".
