    A very beautifully landscaped lake with wide paths all around it, which is connected to a park-like area. There are many ways to relax at the lake or to do some sport on the lake. A "beach bar" also provides a Caribbean flair, and there are also other restaurants. There is also a great children's playground. The only thing that is a bit annoying is the many geese on the beach 🏖️!

                  The Salzgittersee is a 2.1 km long and 0.8 km wide lake in the west of the Salzgitter district of Lebenstedt, Lower Saxony.
                  The 75 hectare artificial lake contains a 25 hectare island that can be reached via a bridge.
                  The first ideas for creating a recreational area in the lowlands of the small rivers Fuhse and Flote (also Flothe, a tributary of the Fuhse) date back to the mid-1930s, but it was not until 1958 that the first concrete plans were made and in 1959 surveying work on the Fuhse valley began.
                  In order to finance the project, Steine und Erden GmbH (later FELS-Werke, a company of the then Salzgitter AG) was entrusted with the commercial exploitation of the gravel deposits in the future area of the lake.
                  A gravel and concrete plant were built on the west side of the lake, where the dredged gravel was further processed.
                  Gravel mining, which was only carried out on the north bank, was finally stopped in 1976.
