GPS or GNSS receivers enable an exact determination of our position on the earth's surface. Schwanstetten has had an interesting and helpful innovation since July 2016. At the end of Schwand in the direction of Rednitzhembach, a so-called geodetic reference point was set up by the Office for Digitization, Broadband and Surveying in Schwabach at the crossing to the lock at Leerstetten.

A stone column with a metal plate bearing a centimeter-precise marking in the middle was erected on site. Simply place the device on the marking and compare the measured coordinates with the target coordinates given on the plate

The coordinates of the Schwanstetten geodetic reference point:

49° 17.7724 north latitude,

11° 6.8462 east longitude,

339.6 meters above sea level.
