Dry most of the year, the wash is a great alternative to hike North/South, e.g. to the Western entrance of Saguaro National Park, to avoid the highway. Much of it is on reservation land. Some sections are parallel to rural dirt roads. A good map is helpful to see where a dirt road is available as an alternative trail.
