Hidden in a secretive Spessart valley lies the moated castle between Frankfurt am Main and Würzburg. The castle is built in the Renaissance style and celebrated its 600th anniversary in 2012. It was known, among other things, as the filming location of the "Wirtshaus im Spessart" with Liselotte Pulver and Carlos Thompson, as well as the venue for the play of the same name. Due to its hidden location, the castle survived all wars unscathed and has been preserved in its original form. Still today Schloss Mespelbrunn is privately owned. Since the beginning of the 1950s, the owners have been involved in preserving the castle as a memorial and at the same time making it accessible to the general public. Over the winter, extensive renovation and restoration work was again carried out, including in the Knights' Hall and on the wooden floors in the museum. The renovation of the historic brick floor in the Knights' Hall will continue until the beginning of June. The Knight's Hall can still be visited thanks to a makeshift floor.
