The Levada do Alecrim has a staircase-lined garbage that is often photographed in guides or guidebooks. Since the trail is often "in the fog," the rays of light in the drops and wetted cobwebs on the softwoods along the roadside are broken and mirrored: a special setting!

A very beautiful levada that is not yet visited by the masses of tourists. It has some small and large highlights and is accessible without any obstacles. You can swim at the waterfall, so bring your swimwear and, ideally, swimming shoes.
We wanted to combine it with the Levada do Vento, but unfortunately it was closed due to maintenance work.

Since the hike is mainly in the shade, it is also ideal on hot days. In between you have a beautiful view of the valley in good weather. It is a pity that the waterfall at the finish is very crowded. But the hike is worthwhile anyway!

The path at Levada do Alecrim offers beautiful views in some places, is otherwise in the shade (which is particularly advantageous on hot summer days), has only few exposed passages and is therefore easy to master even for inexperienced hikers. The path is also not overcrowded. The waterfall at the end is beautiful. Those who like it a little more demanding do not go back the same way completely, but turn right downhill after about 900 m to Lagoa do Vento with its even more impressive waterfall. From there it is a good 2 km to the Rabaçal forester's house, from where you can comfortably take the shuttle bus back to the parking lot.

I can't recommend this walk. It's not unpleasant, but there are many much nicer walks in the Rabaçal area to the north (e.g. the 25 fontes if you arrive before 9am, or the other levadas to the west and north).

This levada is just not very interesting, there are very few viewing spots and the levada itself is stagnant during the summer. The waterfalls at the end are beautiful, but I would recommend reaching them via one of the paths in the north instead.

We were there in August. The parking lot was full, but runs due to various Levadas and hikes. The Alecrim is rather small, so not very secure. There is an exposed place that costs a bit of overcoming. At the end of the way you will be rewarded with the great waterfalls. Absolutely go.

"Alecrim" means rosemary – the levada was named after the wild rosemary that grows in the area. The Levada do Alecrim is located in the highlands near Rabaçal in the west of the island and leads through a stunning landscape with waterfalls, humid, mossy, and open landscapes, laurel forest, and typical Madeiran vegetation.
