The "Rothenbach Pond" is part of the pond landscape of the High Vogelsberg and comprises the pond, which is mainly fed with melt water, as well as adjacent hedge, grassland and forest areas. The pond has a wide, well-developed and near-natural vegetation from reed beds and sedge communities, which are accompanied by particularly worthy protection of bristlegrass turf, wet meadows, deciduous willow bushes as well as beech and spruce stands and a moist black alder forest with a rich herb layer. The small-scale mosaic of the different biotope types offers valuable, often rare animal and plant species a habitat. The "Rothenbachteich" is of particular and national importance for the bird world. Many bird species find suitable retreat areas for their brood business, others visit the area as a resting place on the annual flight to the summer and winter quarters.
