The Eckerstausee is fed by various tributaries and is used to supply drinking water and energy: there are two turbines below the dam. If you walk over the 60-meter-high dam wall, you cross the former inner-German border between the FRG and the GDR.

Wonderful view of the Eckerstausee. Not far from the Eckertalsperre. Also not far away is the Scharfenstein cliff with a rest hut where you can buy drinks and small delicacies.
The path is easy to walk and has a great panorama. On one side the Eckerstausee and on the other side the forest. The Brocken (1142m), the highest mountain in the Harz Mountains, can also be seen very well. It is approx. 5 km to this. The path invites you to rest and enjoy. A clear recommendation from me!
