    The Furth mine was the first coal mine in Wurmtal and probably in Germany. Coal mining began around 1550. Until around 1680 the pit was drained with hand pumps. Then they began to set up water wheels for the pump drive (pump art) and for the mine ride (driving art). The high level of technology at that time was maintained until the mine was closed in 1883/84, when other mines began to work with steam engines. Unfortunately, that was also the end of the pit. A building from this period still serves as a residence today.

              Addition to pump art
              The Further art of pumping was considered a great technical achievement at the time and was described and admired by the villagers as the eighth wonder of the world. At a monarchs' congress in Aachen around 1818, Emperor Franz I of Austria and his Russian colleague Tsar Alexander I of Russia paid a special visit to the mines. In mining, art was understood to mean any type of machine that relieved people of their work and made it easier.

              In the front part of the street, about where you came down from the direction of Plei, is the duck pond. For a long time it was a pond with a tourist restaurant. After that it was a meeting place for anglers, and then it was something else again with changing owners. The only thing that has remained is the pond with ducks, hidden behind a residential building. Unfortunately, it is only a nice photo motif, also from the other side of the worm.
