The church of St. James in Wieren belongs to the Protestant-Lutheran parish in the district of Uelzen. The name was given to the church in 1976 on the basis of a depiction of James on an old communion chalice. It was built in 1910/11 in typical neo-gothic style.

In Wieren a stone church was already since the 12th century. Already in 1892 the Wierener had demanded the construction of a new church. The population had more than doubled in the last 70 years, in addition came in Drohe another 159 inhabitants, so that the stone church with its 226 seats was too small for the village community. In addition, the church was dilapidated. The wooden tower had to be renewed and the church threatened to tear due to the swampy meadows on the walls and the vault of the choir. So in 1909 construction of the new church began. It was designed by the Uelzen architect Eberhard Warnecke in neo-Gothic style and got 380 seats. The St. James's Church was inaugurated on November 5, 1911. The construction cost a total of 90,397 marks and was financed by a loan from the Uelzener Kreissparkasse.
