Among the 5 villages of the Cinque Terre, Vernazza is the most characteristic, best known and most visited of all. I was here now at the end of October and hiked to the top of the hill there is a nice view of Vernazza from up here.

Vernazza (Latin: Vulnetia) is a town and comune located in the province of La Spezia, Liguria, northwestern Italy. It is one of the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre region. Vernazza is the fourth town heading north, has no car traffic, and remains one of the truest "fishing villages" on the Italian Riviera.

Vernazza's name is derived from the Latin adjective verna meaning "native" and the aptly named indigenous wine, vernaccia ("local" or "ours"), helped give birth to the village's moniker.

Cinque Terre: Unfortunately overcrowded. No insider tip anymore! I recommend to avoid other hikes in the region where you are not followed at every turn ;-)

Totally overcrowded. Full of tourists, but still, worth to go there. Probably the best time to visit is winter.

At Pentecost, the number of visitors was OK. Sure, we weren't alone here, but it was still absolutely within the limits. We started in Corniglia via Vernazza to Monterosso.
The path is quite challenging with its elevation, I wouldn't want to hike it in the heat of summer, especially since prices are now going up from June to September to curb the crowds of tourists.
If possible, try to avoid the off-season, you can only win 😉.

We were hiking in September, never again, so crowded the trails with tourist we have never experienced, it was no fun anymore. Old village, etc. Great!

Quite touristic but still a nice place. Don't forget to take your swimm suit with you and take the tunnel from the main street to the "beach" and have a refreshing bath after the hiking tour.

Vernazza has to be visited and seen. As for the Sentiero Azzuro, the same applies here - in the main holiday season it should simply be too crowded, it was already quite full of tourists at the beginning of May.

In October 2024, the toll is €7.50 per day. It was very busy and at first we were very annoyed, especially by the many people who apparently had no idea that they might be a bit out of place here with their poor condition and sometimes completely unsuitable footwear. Later, the crowds dispersed a bit.
The tour itself is beautiful and the villages are just like something out of a picture book
