Wat Bowonniwet Vihara is a major Buddhist temple in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok, Thailand. It was founded in 1824 and is known as the center of the Thammayut Nikaya order of Thai Theravada Buddhism. The temple houses the statue of Phra Phuttha Chinnasi, which is dated to 1357. 
Wat Bowonniwet Vihara has close ties to the Thai royal family. Several kings, including King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and his son, the current King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X), spent their time here as monks. 
Architecturally, the temple is notable for its golden chedi, which contains relics and ashes of members of the Thai royal family. The interior walls of the ubosot are decorated with murals by monk artist Khrua In Khong, who introduced Western styles into traditional Thai art.
