    One of the most classic climbs of the Western Alps, the scene of stages of the Giro d'Italia several times. Very demanding both due to the length and the difference in altitude, as well as the altitude (it starts from 1800 m at Chianale and reaches almost 2750 m on the hill). The views are stunning though, and worth the effort. The French side is less inclined, so those who tackle it during multi-day treks can plan the ascent from France, which is less demanding, and enjoy the descent and the views.

                It is my second favourite mountain pass in Italy, after the Colle del Nivolet. I have no words to explain the beauty, mystique and appeal of this mountain pass. I simply recommend that you go there and enjoy the climb.

                I perfectly remember the first time I heard its name. It was the 1994 edition of the Giro d'Italia and it was climbed as the first mountain pass in a stage that ended in Les Deux Alpes. From that moment on, this border pass between Italy and France remained engraved in my memory. It was climbed again in the 2000 Giro and then I was able to enjoy the images and the beauty of this pass.

                Many years later, in 2015, I climbed it for the first time on the Italian side. The following year again on the Italian side. In 2018 on the French side and again in 2020 on the French side. This is now four times and all of them have been wonderful.

                Both sides are spectacular, long, very difficult and with dreamlike landscapes. I like the Italian one better because the last 10 kilometers are extremely difficult.

                The Colle dell'Angelo is one of the legendary mountain passes in cycling and as such it has to be climbed. Now it's your turn!!
