The Ondankmeulen once stood elsewhere, in Morbecque (Moerbeke). In 1884 it was decided to move the mill to this location where there was already a mill but in poor condition.

A dispute is said to have arisen between the miller and the carpenter when he presented his invoice for the work. Ingratitude was therefore involved. Hence the name.
