The eponymous name is the elder Drusus, Nero Claudius Drusus, a brother of Emperor Tiberius and stepson of Augustus. He came in the years 10 and 9 BC. on his campaigns against various Germanic tribes, including against the Chatten, through the territory of today's Wetterau. After a fall from the horse, which resulted in his death, he was awarded in Rome and in various parts of the empire honors, among other things, he received a monument of honor (cenotaph) on the Rhine. It is not proven that Drusus ever visited the eastern part of the Wetterau. How and when the Drusus Oak came to its name is uncertain, but it is known that it was already known at the time of the research of this Limes section by the Reichs-Limeskommission in 1900/02.
