The water tower, built in 1913, is a largely brick-clad reinforced concrete structure. The building forms a cylinder. This is loosened in the lower area by incisions between pillar-like elements. They reveal a smaller inner cylinder, the walls of which are broken through by windows. The inner cylinder gradually extends towards the container. Finally, the brick surfaces of the pillars change with plaster surfaces a few centimeters behind. Each cleaning surface has a narrow, long window to expose the container walls. A number of other windows follow directly under the roof. They expose the top of the container. The roof is conical and covered with copper.

In Hamburg there are still a number of water towers that are listed buildings and have therefore been preserved. Nevertheless, several of them have been given a new use.

Ochsenzoll is better known to Hamburgers for the former psychiatric "Ochsenzoll Institution" - built in 1893 under the name of the insane asylum. It was only in 2006 that the municipal state hospital company sold land and listed buildings to Asklepius Klinik Nord. The transfer to Asklepius and other users was made on the condition that the outstanding buildings be preserved and put to a new use.

This includes the former administration building, the chapel and the approximately 32m high water tower built in 1913. This reinforced concrete building was planned in 1909 by the responsible municipal building construction department. The brick-clad, relatively slim water tower consists of several floors inside, which are equipped with tanks and associated technology.
In the upper area there is still the wrought iron tank with a capacity of 600m³ of water. A narrow passage allows access to the top walkway, from which you can see the outer roof of the water tank including the access hatch and look far into the country through a large number of small windows all around. The former clinic including buildings and streets were embedded in a circular forest area of over 125 hectares. To supply drinking water, the construction of a total of three wells and subsequently the construction of the water tower were necessary, which are still actively used today.
