There is something special about hiking on the preserved remains of the walls of the ramparts, some of which are still ten meters high. The ring wall runs around the area of the former Celtic settlement over a length of over four kilometers. The ramparts consist of a deep ditch (“Hunnenschlucht”) with a spring, foreangle, rocks with a wing wall, rock bastion, forest section, “Hüll” (waterhole), quarries and four gates. There are well-made display boards with relevant explanations in various places.

The ring wall on the Houbirg includes a former Celtic settlement. It has a circumference of 4.5 kilometers. For comparison, the city wall around Nuremberg's old town is four kilometers long. This gives an idea of how large this settlement must have been and what work was done here - without machines.

The Houbirg near Hersbruck has been inhabited since time immemorial. The wedding was in the Celtic period, which is why this imposing ring wall is also often called the Celtic Wall. There are information boards in several places around the Houbirg, including this passage through the wall.
