The Niederdonker Chapel is a beautiful, idyllic place. According to popular belief, it was once a hermit's cell. It is mentioned in documents from the 17th century as the Chapel of the "Sorrowful Mother", "Mary in Distress" or "Pieper's Chapel" - where this last name comes from is still a mystery today. The destination of many pilgrims is a Pietá from the 19th century, a depiction of Mary with her dead son. It replaces an older figure whose origin and whereabouts are unknown. During the pilgrimage week in September, the Ganden image is carried on the Stations of the Cross around the Dyckhof.
In addition to the Pieta and the motif windows of the chapel, the triptych "Lactatio of Saint Bernard" from 1538 is particularly worth admiring. (Source: smhg.de)
