Carrizo Plain National Monument is a desert, all streams are seasonal and dry up soon after the rain. There is no drinking water available at the visitor center, you must bring all water from outside. The only place where there can be water (but not always) is the difficult-to-find spigot on the South-West corner of KCL Campground, supplied by a well from where water is pumped to a tank on the adjacent hill, usually filled by the rangers or farmer to keep the cattle alive. There is a warning sign about water quality, so a filter or boiling might be wise.
