The village of Pievecchia was the scene of a brutal Nazi massacre:
"Eccidio Pievecchia 8 June 1944 - A group of Partisans from Monte Giovi, who entered the barracks of the republican national guard of Pontassieve, took possession of weapons and ammunition and retired aboard a truck. Some carabinieri took the opportunity to desert and join the partisan patrol. On the way back the partisans stop at Pievecchia. In one of the houses there are two German soldiers and a clash follows in which one soldier dies, while the other manages to escape. follows the Germans raking all the men they can find in Pievecchia and killing them with machine guns in the garden of the village villa. 14 people lose their lives.
